Umeå School of Architecture

Umeå School of Architecture is a new international laboratory for experimental architecture, rather than a traditional educational institution. Inaugurated in 2010, it is the first start-up training provider of architects in the country since 1964. Here, 250 of tomorrow’s architects are trained on an artistic basis, with project-based teaching of various methods of integrated design. It makes the training unique among Sweden’s other architectural colleges.
The School of Architecture in Umeå is characterized by a strong pioneering spirit in which students are trained by internationally qualified architects and teachers who care about the architectural profession’s essence – to work for a better world with aesthetic, ethical, political, social and environmental commitment. The key words for this education is sustainability, resource awareness and international perspectives.Together with the Institute of Design, Fine Arts and HUMlab-X which represents the School of Architecture at Umeå University arts campus where artistic and scientific perspectives are intertwined.
The creative neighbours, the characteristic building and the surrounding area adjacent to the Ume River will host a rare inspiring work among students.
